Rodrimar Carapaica

For more than three decades, Venezuelan artist Rodrimar Carapaica has built a distinguished career as a painter, teacher, muralist, museum documentalist, and coordinator of museography.

Born in San Mateo, Aragua, Carapaica studied at the Escuela de Artes Visuales Rafael Monasterios. She later spent fifteen years at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Mario Abreu, where she learned to care for an art collection with the same patience and attention she brings to every canvas.

Carapaica works primarily in acrylic, creating modern abstract paintings rooted in Latin American informalism. She often paints while standing, using a long brush on large canvases pinned directly to the wall. Without preliminary drawings or fixed plans, she allows pooled color and calligraphic gestures to guide the composition. Each mark remains where it lands, preserving the energy and spontaneity of the creative process.

Her palette began with the blues she remembers from childhood afternoons in Guayabita. Over time, it expanded to include radiant yellows, purples, and magentas—colors that bring warmth, movement, and emotional intensity to her work.

In 2026, Carapaica was one of ten artists recognized for career achievement during Venezuela’s Día Nacional del Artista Plástico, an observance honoring the legacy of Armando Reverón.

Today, she lives near Maracay and teaches painting to children throughout Aragua. To her students, she is known simply and affectionately as Rodri.
